Four Lady Eagles Qualify for State Tournament, Finish Second as Team

The Lady Eagles had a strong showing at the class 1, district 3 tournament in Nevada on February 9-10. After the dust settled in the 33-team tournament, Holden finished second as a team and qualified four wrestlers for the state tournament and two district champions.

In the 105lb bracket, Sophomore Haley Brooks (47-7) came in as the two seed but knocked off the top seed, Aleah Conard, in the finals to capture the district championship. Brooks avenged two losses to Conard earlier in the season with the win. The win also marked Haley’s 100th career win and second state qualification. Brooks placed 5th at state in 2023.

At 110, Sophomore Adasyn Yoder (44-6) held to seed and was able to navigate to a district championship by edging Mallori Edwards from Eldon with a 1-0 decision in the finals. Yoder qualifies for state a second time in as many years and will look to make some damage at the state tournament.

Sophomore Macey Greene (38-5) fell in her finals match to top seed Carlynn Mynatt of Marshfield to finish runner-up in the 115lb weight class. Greene claims her second state qualification and is a returning state medalist.

Senior Charlie Gregg (47-5) entered the 135lb bracket as the three seed. Gregg avenged an early season loss to second-seeded, Aja Watson, with a pin in the semi-finals. Gregg fell to Faith James of Cassville in the finals but secured her third state qualification. Gregg is also a returning state medalist.

Seniors Faithann Brown (20-20) and MaReya May (35-17) had good district tournaments but fell a match short of state qualification bowing out in their bubble matches at 100lb and 120lb brackets.

Sophomore Bobbie Diibon (38-23) also fell in her consolation semifinal match to end her season after a good run in districts.
