Varsity Eagles Compete at Hallsville Tournament

The varsity boys team closed out 2023 with a trip to Hallsville to compete in the Hallsville Holiday Tournament.

With only six wrestlers competing, the boys finished a respectable 9th-place out of 30 teams in the tournament. Several class 2 and 3 schools wrestled in the tournament – including three Illinois teams.

Senior, Daylen Greene, led the way for the Eagles by taking 1st place in the 126lbs weight. Greene earned his 150th career win with a decision win in the semifinals. Greene becomes just the third Eagle to achieve the milestone, trailing only Mason Hunt (152) and Andrew Martin (169) on the career wins list.

Junior, Aiden Christian, finished second in the 285-pound bracket. Christian’s day was highlighted by a 4-3 decision win over previously unbeaten senior, Dawson Miller, from Penney.

Fellow Junior, Conner Carver, had his best finish of the season with a 3rd-place triumph in the 175-pound bracket. Carver went 5-1 on the day with his only loss coming to the eventual champion in the semifinal round.

Junior, Trent Stout, fell in his first match of the day before winning four consecutive matches in the consolation bracket at 157lbs.

Andrew Johnston and Graysen Thieman also contributed to the 88.5 team points earned by the six Eagle grapplers.
