The Lady Eagles trio of Junior state qualifiers competed at the MSHSAA wrestling championships on February 26th and 27th.
Junior Haley Brooks (53-6) took home a 4th-place medal after navigating the 110lb bracket. Brooks advanced to the state semifinals for the third consecutive year with a 14-3 major decision over Zorea Shaw of St. Charles West and a pin over Cameron’s Skye Mallen in the quarterfinals.
Brooks dropped her semifinal match to Brookfield’s Jayden Keller (eventual champion) but came back with a 14-1 major decision over Olivia Weaver of Fulton to advance to the 3rd place match. Brooks lost a close 3-1 decision in the third-place match to Kyana Huseynov of Higginsville to claim 4th.
In the 125-pound bracket, Adasyn Yoder (38-12) won her opening-round match over Izzy Kidwell of Lathrop by a 12-2 major decision. Yoder dropped her quarterfinal match to Alivia Bottoms of Boonville before and setup a rematch with district opponent Jazmyne Blaney of Carl Junction. This time, Blaney got the better of Yoder to end her tournament.
For the second consecutive year, junior Macey Greene (45-8) was unable to complete the state tournament due to injury. Holding a 6-4 3rd period lead in her opening match at 120lbs, Greene suffered a concussion and abrasion to her head. After a long break of cleanup, Greene finished the match but dropped a 9-6 decision to eventual state finalist Alexis Ruff of Warrenton. Greene was ruled out with a concussion after the match.
Brooks added the seventh state medal to the Holden girls’ program. The trio of Juniors holds six of the seven program’s medals.
