The Lady Eagles traveled to Belton for a two-day December 13-14 tournament. With only six point-scoring wrestlers, Holden finished in 11th place. Six of seven wrestlers qualified for the top bracket and we had three medalists.
Last year’s state finalist, Haley Brooks, led the way with a first place finish in the 115 pound bracket. Brooks was pre-ranked as the top seed and was dominant on her way through the bracket earning four pins and three technical falls.
After giving up an early takedown in her finals match, Brooks overwhelmed Elena Moore from North Kansas City with a takedown and four near-fall points in the second period. Brooks finished the match in the third with an escape, takedown, and eventual pin.
In the 120-pound bracket, Macey Greene finished as runner-up, going 5-1 in the tournament. Greene collected her 100th career win on Saturday morning with her 17-2 technical fall win over MaKenna Hage of Lee’s Summit West.
Also competing in the 120 pound bracket, Mila Turpin had the best tournament of her young career going 6-2 in the tournament including some late comeback wins. Turpin finished 6th in the 27-person bracket.
At 125, Ady Yoder turned in a 3rd place medal, going 6-1 in the tournament. Yoder’s only loss on the day was to the eventual champion, Kylie Dunn, in the semifinals. Yoder earned her 100th career win on Friday night with a first-round pin over Peytyn Conard of Blue Springs.
Bobbie Diibon finished 8th place in the 140-pound bracket. Diibon staked two wins in pool play Friday night to earn a spot in the top bracket.
McCanna Gudde (170) and Taylor Hubbard (190) contributed to team points with multiple wins in their respective brackets.
NOTES: Yoder and Greene become the 3rd and 4th members of the Lady Eagle 100 win club. They join Haley Brooks and Charlie Gregg who also achieved the milestone in the past few years.
